Once Upon A Time  (05/30/2012)

I watch in morbid fasciation as the Ice Queen's entourage, her army of solemn approving golems, slowly fades away; Once more than forty strong, now a mere fourteen... Every few weeks, yet another one stumbles and mumbles; offering words of faint praise and promises of future adoration, before they slip away secretly into the night to their freedom....

How sad that, when this Ice Queen finally slips into Hell, she will do so utterly, completely lost and alone...

Her current toy, a mere pillow of a 'man', stands like a cast-off, retired cartoon character in a cartoon graveyard, and offers the Ice Queen his emaciated arm; her presence beside him the only validation to his manhood his shattered ego can arrange...

The entire assembly shuffles forward to slow, silent decay...

Beside me, the Princess of the Sun slips her arm into mine and speaks, the sound of soft silence cast in golden beams: "Turn away, sir.. you are lifted from Death into Life, yet their passage somehow still fascinates you so..."

I sigh sadly, and continue the watch.

"Tis human nature, my Love," I reply, "to be overcome with watchful eyes for the plight of the Damned. It reminds those of us who have escaped this curse that Life is meant only for the living, and that the glimpse of heaven only intended for those who seek it..."

The Princess smiles and leans closer to my shoulder. Nodding her head, the empathy of her beauty washes over me: "You mourn the day of her Destruction..."

I nod, albeit sadly. "Aye... I mourn the inevitable day of her Destruction. Before she gazed foolishly into the consuming Mirror of Vanity, She was like a beautiful rose that brought Life and Love to all who gazed on her, or listened to her joyful laughter:

Now, look at her: slouching off to Bethelem, with blood on her lips..."

She smiles at me, the radiance of her beautiful face warming my soul. "You love her still, despite her slow descent into Sorrow..."

I nod, albeit sadly. "Aye, I do, yet it is an awful, horrible Love: It's the love of a one-legged Marathon Runner, seeking the Wreath, or an old, barren woman seeking desperately to be with birth. I am cursed with the memory of a young man's sudden demise, or the wish, never fulfilled, of an ancient man to pass the veil..."

She takes my arm again, and turns me away from the vision; together we return, side by side, to hearth and home. She is silent but serene as we move; I can feel the gentle course of warmth in her arm as we walk...

"Never fear, my sweet Princess of the Sun" I whisper to her then, "When I was with this wretched woman, I was ALWAYS alone, but now that I am with you, I shall never find myself so...."

The radiance of this vision seeps and sifts into the darkness and vanishes away; Light eternally seperated from Darkness as the Ice Queen and her entourage shuffle towards Death alone and the Princess of the Sun leads me on, to endless Joy...
